Scribe Post, March 2, 2009

Today in Math, we did "Number Of The Day" as usual. Today's Number of the Day is 9876.123.

Today we're in a new unit. Our next unit is called "Probability". Probability is the likelihood or chance of an event occurring.

1. Favourable Outcomes means what we want to happen.

Possible Outcomes means what might happen.

Probability can be expressed as a Ratio, Fraction, or Percent.

Example: Ratio Farction Percent
1:2 1/3 40%

More Types of Probability:

Earth reaching Absolute zero! This is an example of Impossible Outcome or event.

Impossible Outcome mean is when you are sure that event is not gonna happen.

People will always watch television whenever they're bored. This is an example of Certain Outcome or event.

We might find aliens in the future! If your Not sure of something.

Homework:

Put a letter on top of the number line where you think it would go.

What is the probability...

A. ...flipping a coin and landing on heads?

B. ...with 1 normal six sided die, you roll an 8?

C. ...a bag contains 8 red markers and you reach into the bag and pull out 1 red marker?

D. You spin a spinner with four equal sections marked chocolate, fruit, yogurt and ice cream. What is the probability of the pointer stopping on the fruit?

E. A bag contains letters, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H. What is the probability that you can pull out the letter H?

F. A bag has 3 gold marbles and 1 silver marble. What is the probability that you can pull out the silver marble?

G. What is the probability that the next baby born in Winnipeg is a boy?

Probability of spinning A.

Probability of spinning a vowel.

Probability of spinning Q.

I think this was homework too.

Discover the value of each shapes. The total weight is 77.

P.S.

Sorry because I didn't do the Friday's blog because I have Tonsilitis.

I choose Laura for the next scribe post. Thank you for checking my scribe please leave a comment.

scribepost for feb.25

Today in Math we did number of the day as always. The number was 2691.543.

After that mr. Isfeld said to do the math links book pages 398 to 401. It was all algebra eg. are,

1. A + 7 =12
A+7=12

A=5

verfiy
A+7=12
5+7=12
12=12

2. 6d=30
6d/6=30/6
d=5

verfiy

6d=30
6(5)=30
30=30

There are some eg. of algebra but there are alot more in different ways to do it.

In algebra you should always have the = sign in a line and do the verify.

some stuff from the math links are,

#3. d-27=15
d-27+27=15+27
d=42

In the book it said to just do the question or solve it, in the math links book you don't always have to do the verify (you should do it on test or for other stuff).

Don't forget to study for the test.

For next scribe i pick Abby:)

Scribe Post For February 24 , 2009

Today in math class we started of with number of the day, as usual. The number of the day is 8394.162. Make sure you do number of the day everyday if you do not finish in class.

Then After that Mr.Isfeld told us to do math links textbooks on page 398 to 400. It was mostly about Algebra and mental math. If you do not know already here are some examples of how to do an algebraic question :
Verify
Question : R - 3 = 7 R - 3 = 7
Answer : R - 3 + 3 = 7 10 - 3 = 7
R - 3 + 3 = 7 + 3 7 = 7 R = 10

Now here are some examples of the math link textbook answer. (random questions answered)

#2. S + 12 =20
S + 12 - 12 = 20 - 12

S = 18

#5
a) b + 11 = 14

3 + 11 = 14

The solution is b = 3

#6
a) 3 b) 8 c) 4

There is no homework for today.
I pick Kaitlin L. to do the next Scribepost.

Scribepost for February 19, 2009

Well, today in class we did number of the day. Then we had to do these algabra questions when we were finished with the number of the day. These were those questions with the answers;

1.5+x=16 VERIFY
5+x-5=16-5 5+x=16
x=11 5+11=16
16=16

2.4+x=9 VERIFY

8.6+x=15 VERIFY
6+x-6=15-5 6+x=15
x=9 6+9=15
15=15

9.x/5=5 VERIFY
5x5=25 x/5=5
x=25 25/5=5
5=5

10.10+x=20 VERIFY
10+x-10=20-10 10+x=20
x=10 10+10=20
20=20

11.X/7=7 VERIFY
7x7=49 x/7=7

7=7

16.x+4=7 VERIFY
x+4-4=7-4 x+4=7
x=3 3+4=7
7=7

After we did those questions, we did some other questions, harder questions. First Mr. Isfeld wanted to show us how to answer them,

The question looked like this;
59=5x+6x+4

The first step is to, combine the 5x and 6x to get 11x then your question will now look like this,

59=11x+4

Then from there, you subtract 4 from both sides, and now it looks like this,

55=11x

Now this last part is easy;
11x/11=x
55/11=5
So x=5,

Now you verify,
59=5x+6x+4
59=5(5)+6(5)+4
59=25+30+4
59=59

THERE I HOPE YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT I JUST TAUGHT !
I PICK ELVIN TO DO THE NEXT SCRIBEPOST !

P.S. My computer is different then most, and i didnt have time to change the color on my other computer,
so maybe next time I can make a better scribepost with way more color, and better designs...

Scribepost for February 17, 2009

Today in class, we started off with number of the day, as usual.
Then we started a balancing act that looked like this:

Then we corrected it in class with Mr. Isfeld. Here are the answers:

After that we did algebra equations.

4m-6-2m+2=m+2

m=6

Verify:

4m-6-2m+2=m+2

4(6)-6-2(6)+2=6+2

24-6-12+2=8

18-12+2=8

6+2=8

8=8

Write and solve the following equation :

Six less than three times a number is twenty four.

3n-6=24

3n-6+6=24+6

3n=30

n=10

Verify:

3n-6=24

3(10)-6=24

30-6=24

24=24

We didn't have any homework today and I choose Noelle for the next scribe post.

Today in math we had our term test , we also corrected it . The test was on things we learned this term and some things we learned last term .
We got to sort of correct homework from yesterday .

Which was .. :
Write an equation and solve it, for the following statement . Daylon talked for 45 minutes during class , how many minutes did he work ?

Answer : A + 45 = 55 Verify
A + 45 - 45 = 55 -45 A + 45 = 55
A = 10 10 + 45 = 55
55 = 55

We don't have any homework today .

P.S I'm really really sorry i posted this late !

I pick.. AMMORN for the next scribe post .
